Isa (Jesus) according to the Gospel said “The truth will set you free.” The problem is that the truth is often difficult to find and difficult to understand. The truth seems to be that we walk around on an orb, that spins around another orb, that keeps us warm and that goes at tremendous speeds and we exist in the midst of a universe of orbs that have names like planets and suns and asteroids, all sort of circulating in some sort of pattern. Yet, to grasp all of this and to be truly aware of it while it is going on, and to be conscious of exactly what we are involved in is beyond our ability to absolutely comprehend.
This fact that we live on an orb and that we float in space and that gravity keeps us positioned is really very elemental to our being. It’s so close to the way we are that it’s part of our every second, every moment, every instant being. Yet, we are unconscious to it in our normative existence. If something that is that close to us elementally is difficult to grasp, how difficult is it for us to grasp the truth of existence? How hard for us is it to have faith in that which we cannot see at all?
We now have pictures that have been sent to us of what the earth looks like and how the earth spins and it’s positioning within the solar system and its positioning within the universe. It’s still incomprehensible even though we acknowledge “Yes, it is this way.” But what does it really mean to us? What is the impact on us?
