Last week was the urs of bawa muhaiyaddeen, the ceremony of the day he departed this earthly form. And there was a gathering at the mazaar (burial tomb of a saint), and it was really very crowded and went pretty well. But I think today we should talk a little bit about Muhaiyaddeen. We all know the word, and we all know the common English translation of Muhaiyaddeen — reviver of the faith. But in order to really understand Muhaiyaddeen, we need to break down the Arabic. Some of you have just been on Umra (pilgrimage to the Kabba in Mecca that is done at any time of the year other than the Hajj season), so you know the word Mutawaf. Mutawaf is the one who takes you on Tawaf (circumambulation of the Kabba). Well, the first part of Muhaiyaddeen is Mu, and it’s the same meaning, “the one who…”. “Hai” means life. “Deen” is the religion. “The one who brings life to the religion.” “The one who brings it back to life.”
