The world is in a constant state of decay. The creations are in a constant state of decay. If you look at humanity, and you go to a hospital, you can see people being born and people dying and everything in between. The elements in the world are in constant conflict. Water doesn’t get along so well with fire; earth absorbs everything, swallows everything; air can cause havoc in the oceans, and on the earth, yet we are all made up of all of these things that are in conflict and are in decay.
We have, in each of our bodies: earth, air, fire, water, ether, all of the elements, and the elements, for a time, get along. Then they begin to break the compact that held them together, and they begin to be in conflict again. When this conflict occurs the body becomes decayed. But if we watch the world we see all of these elemental conflicts, and we see elemental chaos. We see war, we see arguments, we see the attempt from each side, and everything, to be superior to the other thing. This attempt to be in control, this attempt to be superior, runs into resistance, and resistance runs into conflict. So how do we escape? What’s the way out of this? How can we somehow live our life without being involved in all of the elemental conflicts that surround us, and all of the chaos that surrounds us?
For one thing, we can stop reading newspapers. That will help. It will relieve you of the immediate stress of people trying to get you engulfed into whatever their agenda is as to the ongoing chaos. But that’s not enough. As we become more and more removed from the world, certain parts of the world are going to come after us. They are going to try and interfere with our peace. That’s when we have to use the weapons that we were given to return to peace.
What is the weapon that we were given to return to peace? What are the methodologies for bringing peacefulness back into our being? We have to learn how to love more. The more things come at you, the more love you have to be able to give out. The more difficult things become, the more love you have to be able to engender. We need to understand what unconditional love is, what love of God is, and we need to be able, in our own being, to bring more and more of that out of ourselves.
When anger comes at you, you have to reply to anger with love. When hastiness comes at you, you have to reply to hastiness with love. When all of these things come, you have to be able to reply to them with love. We have to engender, in ourselves, a way to let love grow within ourselves…
