#132 O Sweet Freedom

There’s a Christian spiritual from a while ago. One of the lines is Heaven, Heaven, Everybody talkin’ bout, Nobody goin’ there. Heaven. And it came to me, recently, that line. I thought it a little bit. And it’s actually profound because what it is saying is that we all know about heaven. We all want to go to heaven, or at least be entitled to heaven. We all understand what needs to be done in order to make that journey. We all talk about it, but for some reason we are quite aware that we’re not doing all that’s necessary in order to make that achievement. Everybody talkin’ ’bout, nobody goin’ there, heaven.
Why? Why can’t we do what we ourselves think is necessary in order to make that accomplishment. Let’s not use heaven as a place we go to, let’s use heaven as a state we come to. As a state of appropriate being. So, everybody’s talking about getting to that state of appropriate being, nobody’s going there. Why?
