#118 The Mountain of the Mind

People are always looking for peace, yet most people don’t know the way to find it. They don’t know what is keeping them from being peaceful. What’s interesting is, for the most part, people try and use that which keeps them un-peaceful to try and make them peaceful. What am I talking about? The mind. The constant noise that the mind makes is what keeps people on edge, what keeps people from finding repose. The mind is without end, without ceasing, without stopping, without a break. Since it’s constantly going, it constantly begs, insists, for reaction to it, for response to it, for some kind of interaction with it.

It’s very, very difficult when we live in a world of constant interaction and interaction seems to be a normative procedure to get to a place where we don’t get involved with interaction. This interaction goes on internally. It’s not even interaction with an outside being. We don’t need outside pressure to cause turmoil inside of us. We don’t need outside influences to cause turmoil inside of us. We’re very capable of creating all the turmoil that’s necessary to keep us upset right inside of ourselves because that’s what the mind does.

Desire attaches itself to the mind and then the mind tries to resolve that desire, whatever it may be. Then there is a constant scenario of desire, resolution, desire, resolution, desire, resolution, desire, mind, desire, mind, desire, mind, desire, mind.
