There’s a story of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who went into a town and in the course of events, they threw stones at him. And the angels came and asked the Prophet what he wanted them to do in retribution for what had occurred. And he said, “Don’t do anything. Their children will be my followers.” The attitude and the ability not to take retribution, not to want to lash out at an inappropriate action takes an enormous amount of courage, and it takes a certain state of being within a person to be able to do that.
