If people knew there were sharks in the water where they were swimming, they probably wouldn’t get in the water. But they don’t know and they assume that they will be safe. They assume that there is nothing that they don’t see that will or can harm them. Well, the ocean is an interesting place. There’s the surface and there’s beneath the surface. And beneath the surface goes a long way. In parts it’s an extremely long way, so long a way that people have never been to the bottom of it yet. They haven’t been able to get that deep because of the various pressures.
In our existence, in our life, we enter into various situations and we go according to the depth that we are capable of going. You can get a Bachelor’s of Art in Literature, you can get a Master’s of Art in Literature and you can get a PhD. in Literature. The significance is that there is supposed a different depth as to the amount that you know.
There’s different kinds of knowings, and there’s different ways of knowing, just as there’s different kinds of seeing. In our school systems the usual way that we examine people is to get them to regurgitate facts.
